"Wood from the earth, cloth from tradition — preserved together forever."
This bowl begins with an oak burl salvaged from a local park in San Jose, California. Burls are abnormal growths that produce the most spectacular, swirling grain figures found in any tree — no two are alike.
Into the raw burl, Kippot — the traditional Jewish cloth skull caps — are cast in clear resin. The resin preserves the texture and color of the fabric while locking them into the wood, creating a piece that holds both natural beauty and cultural meaning.
The whole piece is then returned to the lathe and turned into its final bowl form, hand-sanded and finished in my home shop in California. This bowl has a sister piece (listing 4464716780) and the two are designed to nest together.
This one-of-a-kind bowl has found its home. I'd love to create something similar just for you.
