The Cheshire

"Every piece of wood tells a story, and The Cheshire speaks of transformation — where forgotten branches become timeless art."

The heart of this piece began its journey as a salvaged oak branch from a local park in San Jose, California. What might have been discarded as waste became the foundation for something extraordinary. The rich, warm tones of the oak provide a stunning contrast against the deep, mysterious epoxy resin that encases it.

But The Cheshire is more than just wood and resin — it's a celebration of nature's intricate details. Suspended throughout the piece are carefully positioned liquid amber spiky balls, their geometric perfection creating mesmerizing patterns. Pine cones add organic texture, while delicate Jacaranda seed pods float like whispers of the forest within the glossy depths.

The name "The Cheshire" evokes a sense of mystery and wonder — much like the enigmatic grin that appears and disappears. As light plays across the surface of the vase, different elements emerge and recede, revealing new details with each viewing angle. The interplay between the golden oak grain and the dark, translucent resin creates an almost magical quality, as if capturing a moment frozen in time.

Creating this piece required patience and precision. Each natural element was carefully positioned before the epoxy pour, ensuring they would suspend in perfect harmony. The result is a functional work of art that brings the beauty of the forest indoors, transformed into something both familiar and utterly unique.
